I just downloaded FireFox yesterday to give it a shot and so far have been thoroughly impressed. It has a similar feel to IE so it isn't hard to get used to.

I like that it doesn't have the problems that IE has - such as for me, I often leave my computer on for days at a time. With IE after 24 hours when browsing websites if I don't actually type in http: // at the start of addresses it takes forever to get to the site.

I am sure there are other benefits I am not aware of but I just came across this one this morning. Anyone else use FireFox? Love it, hate it?

Oh my, if you like Firefox, even when you haven't spent days finding and downloading megabytes of extensions, I can't even imagine the joy you face when you discover Opera.

I like FireFox and the tab browsing. I may have to take a look at this Opera also. One thing I do not like about FireFox is I have no idea what level of encryption it has, so I stick with IE 6 when doing banking and other security sensitive type transactions.

Just downloaded and installed Opera, and honestly Justin, I'm just not seeing it. FireFox has a pop-up blocker that works from go, I went to a default Opera bookmark and three pop ups appeared. Do you need to turn on the pop up blocker in Opera? Another thing I found lacking in Opera was the bookmarks. FireFox imports your IE favorites, why doesn't Opera? I also do not like the tool bar along the left side of the screen, shrinking my viewing area. FireFox blows Opera out of the water dude.

No... you've used Opera in two minutes and probably not even browsed through the toolbars, before you spit all your blame on Opera and praise Firefox.

To block popups... press F12 and choose "Block unwanted popups".

Import the IE bookmarks from File -> Import -> Internet Explorer Favorites.

You can hide the left bar simply by moving the cursor to the very left edge of your screen and clicking. You can also hide, show, and change the locations/appereances of other toolbars from View -> Toolbars -> Customize Toolbars. (I don't like having the back, next, reload/stop, etc. buttons in the small size next to the address bar, but as big buttons in the main toolbar. I also prefer 468x60 size Google ads in the toolbar rather than the small wide thing at the top of the browser).

I strongly recommend you to read through the Opera help section; ENTIRELY. It may be a lot to read but it's certainly worth it, I'm sure you'll find a lot of goodies that you will love. Try the mouse gestures for instance; once you get used to simply holding the right button while clicking the left one to go to the previous page in history (Back), you will never give up the feature.

OK ok, I tried out Opera and yeah it is better. It has everything FireFox has plus more. I also didn't like that sidebar but quickly found how to hide it (F4 to minimize down to just the icons, or the far left side to completely minimize), I am liking their built-in mail client too. I have imported all my IE and Outlook Express settings into it.

The only things I wish it did was: hybrid mail services (ie Hotmail) in the mail client, no advertising on the free version (or at the very least smaller) and lastly more customizable menus and panels ( the status bar is a little too wide for me, want to shrink some).

Why would you want it in a seperate program or window?

I find it very convenient to have a window that doubles as my email and browser considering normally when I am working I used to have a total of 20 windows/programs running at the same time. This reduces browsing & mail down to one window. If you don't like their mail client you can disable it. I like its features quite a bit better than Outlook though.

Oh yeah, the mouse gestures are awesome!

And another thing I like:

The Javascript Console and javascript error handling. The console makes debugging scripts much easier than with Internet explorer. This is going to come in really handy during development.

I was complaining about the lack of Hybrid mail earlier, I found a program out there called HotPopper at www.fitsoftware.com that allows you to get your hotmail through Eudora, Opera and other similar clients.

yay! That's exactly what I need!
I've been using Opera for a long time now, and I won't go back to IE or change to Firefox. I've tried them all, but Opera's just for me.

I love Firefox! It's light, fast and extendible. I love the Dictionary Search extension. I can right-click on any word I don't know and click Dictionary Search to look it up at dictionary.com in a new tab.

Opera is good though, since it complies well with W3C standards. I don't like how it has that adbar though. And I don't like it enough to pay for it either. Laughing

So the fact that there is a banner overrides all good sides in Opera!??

Opera has that built-in Razz

So you have nothing more to comment... ok, devlance explained it well. I wonder, why do you want your email client separate? You may think that running the email client simulatenously with the browser is unnecessary, well, the email client doesn't take up any extra RAM space when it's not being used, and being forced to download the email client along with the browser shouldn't be a big deal, considering the download size for the Opera browser, with all its features, the email, newsfeed and IRC client is megabytes less than merely the Firefox skeleton, that you also need tons of extensions for...
If you're really troubled with the email client, delete M2.DLL from the Opera7 folder, and remove the "Mail" menu by modifying the INI configuration for the menus, as simple as that Smile

Too bad opera isn't free. And if you get the free one, you get ads.

Ya.. so much better than firefox.

YES!

Just try Opera and you'll see... faster, more features, more customizable... get Opera from http://www.opera.com/download/, and read through the Help section to make sure you don't miss any features that you'd have usage for.
